Graphic Short Stories

Urban Chronicles II, highlights the parenthood of urban dwellers through three visceral short stories. Today’s ever-busy, fast society, with much to do, far too many choices, and too little time results in both, anxious parents, and, silent, rebellious children. While a child is most precious to parents, the stories question the strategies that parents are adopting to bring up their children. In Lost and Found, Adrit, prefers to stay with his kidnapper, while in All that matters, Pankaj’s parents impose their unrealized dreams on their son without even attempting to understand what the boy wanted. The third story is an intriguing take on relationships when three-generation embark on a cruise. In an age where time is a luxury and the reading habit is receding, graphic stories make messages easier to communicate. Nita Bajoria keeps it simple, with her empathetic and perspicacious view of life - a humane approach, even in criminality, that can forge unexpected bonds; living your dream every moment, without being burdened by the expectation of others (especially relevant in these times of loss due to Covid); finding yourself and others through rekindled relationships.

Short Graphic Stories

~What is the last graphic novel you read? ~Urban Chronicles 2, is a collection of three short stories revolving around urban families. The stories are Lost and Found, All That Matters, Three Women in a Boat. The stories were all in graphic format. All the stories were woven around the relationship between parents and children in urban families. ~The first story is about a woman who kidnaps a rich parent's child to earn money and the story is overwhelmingly sweet and emotional. ~The second story is about parents who want their unfulfilled wishes to be fulfilled by their children even before thinking what their child might want. This story was so tragic, it left me in tears. ~The third story is about women of three generations in a family going out together and having a realisation about each other through their experiences in the trip. This story was a really fun read and I could really relate to the story. ~It is impressive how short these stories were yet the amount of thought they carried in a matter of few pages was much. It is simple yet impactful. Each story ends with a thought or lesson. ~Being a graphic novel, this can catch attention to the eyes of children as well as adults. This is written in easy to read language and in simple writing. The stories are normally paced. It is a short read of 84 pages which requires merely one sitting. And who doesn't like a comic book format? ~I would recommend it to beginners as well as non-readers. And if you like reading short stories or if you are a fan of graphic books/comics, this one is for you!
