Book Title : NO MATTER WHAT... I will always love you!
Rohit Dawesar is an author from Indore whose debut novel 'The Stupid Somebody' became a national bestseller even before he signed a contract for his second book 'NO MATTER WHAT... I will always love you!' which released on 5th Jan'2021. The book is already topping the ranking charts.
Popular for his Nanotales, short stories and one liners that he posts on his social media accounts and on his website, Rohit started writing when he realised that the story he had in his mind was a unique tale that needed to be told.
Now a full-time writer who creates magic with his words, he also owned a coaching institute for engineering and MBA students at one point in time, was a director at Entrepreneurs Consulting Pvt. Ltd., and is also the co-founder and director of a fast-food restaurant brand named The Urban Gumti. He is a book lover and a movie and television series fanatic who will hardly say no to a cup of coffee any time.
“Sometimes, we do not get a chance to thank each one who has helped us in our Journey.” Let the readers get a chance to know about all the important people who have played a part in this ‘Author Journey of Yours’.
I agree with that. We usually don’t thank people in our lives who really matter to us (which, in my humble opinion shouldn’t be the case). But, luckily in my case, it was in the ‘Acknowledgements’ section of my books where I got an opportunity to thank those few superhumans who had helped me in my journey called life. From my family to friends to my readers, I am grateful to the Lord to have sent them to me.
When and how did the idea of writing a book come to you? Can you tell a bit about the books you have written and share a few lines from any of them?
I always believed that the story of my life (which every human thinks about their life too) is a story worth telling. My readers proved it right by making my debut novel, ‘The Stupid Somebody’ a bestseller. Actually, I always knew that my life’s story was unique in the sense that there never was a story been told before that was based on a stammerer’s life. We have always seen a guy or a girl who stammers as a filler for jokes in stories. And, one fine day I asked myself that if I will not tell my story, who will. So, that thought inspired me to write.
And, about my latest bookish baby, ‘No Matter What… I will always love you!’, it’s an extension of my short story series, ‘Love Story of Rishi and Mishika’ which was immensely loved by my readers. Their constant poking (for me to write its next episode after every episode that I posted on my website) made me convert it into a full-fledged novel.
Few lines that I love from my books:
The Stupid Somebody: Have patience, my son. If given time and under the right conditions, even grass can turn to milk.
No Matter What… I will always love you!: When love, real love strikes, it’s not like you get hit by a single fluffy rose; rather, it’s like getting blown off your feet by a whole world full of fragrant fluffy roses and all the beautiful things of the world.
According to you which are the 5 books that everyone should read and who are your top 3 Authors and what impact did they have in your journey as a writer?
Here my take is – to each its own. I mean, it depends upon the genre you like. My top five in different genres are The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, The Kite Runner by Khalid Hosseini, Stranger Trilogy by Novoneel Chakraborty, An autobiography of a Yogi by Paramhansa Yogananda and Good to Great by Jim Collins. Authors whose work I really admire are Khalid Hosseini and Paulo Coelho. I also liked John Green’s work on certain occasions.
Both of your Novels are love-based stories, what is the story/inspiration behind both of your books?
Maybe the ones who are not married write more about love. (laughs). See, I write stories that come to me and refuse to leave until I pen them down. So, I am not only going to write love stories, but I will keep writing the ones that make me excited, joyous and sleepless, doesn’t matter what genre they are then. For example, my latest one is not pure romance; it’s a romantic thriller. In the near future, you are going to read my books of almost any and every genre.
What has been your most cherished experience as an author?
Oh! They come to me almost everyday whenever a reader sends me their review over social media or on Amazon, Flipkart, etc. I love that. But, if you want me to recall anything specific, there have been few. One was when a reader came from a different city to meet me and present to me a framed sketch of mine that she had made. Another was when I had received gifts even from out of India. For some reason, that reader had my address. Also, a reader from Assam who was in seventh or eighth standard had posted a hand-written letter to me over social media tagging me as her favourite author. Readers who call themselves as fans amaze you every now and then by their love.
Could you share a few tips for budding Authors and aspiring writers?
My advice to budding authors is (no matter how cliche it may sound, it is the most important) – Read, write. Also, you can attend my free weekend session which I am conducting to guide and help aspiring-authors (not sure if I will be doing this for long. But, as of now I am doing it). It’s my way of giving back to the fraternity and the industry which has given me so much.
How can a writer keep the mental block or writer’s block away from his/her creativity?
According to me, caution alert: It’s an unpopular opinion – there’s nothing like writer’s block. It’s, I would say a humanly block. It’s like you are giving less input and expecting more output. How is that possible? If you keep on reading books, watching good movies, tv shows, web series and also if you always keep the observation-hat over your head, you are never going to run out of ideas.
Are you working on anything at present that you would like to share with your readers? What are your future plans?
I have just completed writing my third novel which is an unusual love story of Abeer and Roshi weaved around a very controversial, but socially relevant topic. Also, started writing my first thriller novel. This one I am sure is going to be a nail-biting suspense thriller cum murder mystery. Apart from writing, I am also trying to make India read and write more via two concepts that I have started, #IndiaLetsRead and #IndiaLetsWrite.
What made you initiate #IndiaLetsRead and #IndiaLetsWrite?
In #IndiaLetsRead I want people to start reading more, especially us, Indians. Why? Because, I believe where we come from used to be a land of literature which nowadays have even less readers than they have in some foreign countries. Reading, I believe is a spiral staircase to some amazing feelings and wisdom. The ones who don’t read are deprived of the wonders of imagination, and I don’t want anyone to be robbed of it.
About #IndiaLetsWrite, as I already mentioned above, with the intention of returning it back to the literature world, I am guiding aspiring-authors. See, we writers, in facts artists are very naive and we easily get fooled. So, I just want to educate (with whatever knowledge I have gained by hustling, trying to make a mark in this industry) the ones who come in this industry with almost zero preparation but with a dream to make their novels claim the bestselling tag, reach every reader and inspire lives. For that you need guidance, or you need to invest lots of time and money. I am helping those people. There’s a selfish motive behind it as well. If Indian authors will write better, more people are going to start reading. So, it’s a win-win.
At Sharing Stories, we have an ongoing campaign ‘Let’s Empower Our Kids’. Please suggest some books here that you would want your child to read before the age of 15 which could help him in understanding certain dimensions of human life like empathy, sympathy, relationships, etc.
Well, that’s a wonderful cause. In fiction, I would suggest them to go for any good book, for starters grab mine. The best part about fiction novels is that they destroy our non-empathetic selves presenting to us a better version of ourselves. In non-fiction, they can try reading books like ‘How to win friends and influence people’ or ‘Why men don’t listen and girls can’t read maps’. These books will help them relate to a lot of human-nature-related stuff, will also make their personal and professional life better and give them confidence; that too while they entertain a little.
